Today would have been El Hajj Malik El Shabazz/Malcolm X’s 89th birthday, may he be blessed with peace and beauty. When I read his autobiography at the age of 16, it radically shifted my perspectives on race, Islam, America & social justice. How did he impact your life?

Because of him

Reading The Autobiography of Malcolm X when I was 16 or 17 had a profound impact on me and my worldview. Until that point I had only a flickering understanding of white privilege, racism, and the hidden agendas of others. It was as if after reading it a veil had been pulled away from my eyes. I cannot downplay the profound and total impact that this book and subsequent knowledge I gathered about Malcolm X, the Nation of Islam and Imam Warith D. Muhammad had on me. It would be a piece of the puzzle that would lead me to Islam 5 years later.
