In general, diabetics both type 1 and type 2 diabetes, they can do blood donation, as long as they manage the disease well and always control it. Diabetics must control their health by doing regular exercise and following a healthy diet.

If you are on medication to control your blood sugar, of course you consume many types of drugs. Ask your doctor if the medicines you take can prevent you from making a blood drive.

Factors to consider before blood donation

1. Pre-diabetes – Those with pre-diabetic conditions can make blood donations as long as they don’t have heart disease problems.

2. Insulin intake – People with type 1 and type 2 diabetes are not allowed to donate blood.

3. Diabetes medications – For diabetics who are taking medications with a variety of medications, blood donation is permitted as long as their medications do not change within 4 weeks. If the drug has changed, blood sugar levels also have an effect and this might be risky.

4. Heart problems – People with diabetes with heart problems, in many cases they are not allowed to do donors and they are not sufficient conditions for donors.

Diabetics who experience heart failure, fainting due to heart problems, surgery on the arteries, are expected to not do blood donations.

When you want to make a donor, blood donor centers usually ask and filter, they will ask about your condition. If you are a person with diabetes, you must give this information to them including what abat you are consuming.

What To Do After Blood Donation

For those of you who have diabetes, if you have already donated blood, you must control your sugar levels, consume healthy foods, fruits rich in iron. In addition, follow the instructions below and do these things.

  • If you feel your arm hurt, use acetaminophen.
  • To avoid bruising, use a bandage for at least 4 hours
  • Not doing strenuous activities for 24 hours after the donor.
  • Increase your body’s fluid intake.

If the condition of diabetics is healthy and in health surveillance, then you are not an obstacle for you to be able to donate blood. Blood donation can be done once in 56 days, or platelets in 7 days. Do a healthy diet exercise every day.
