Some Causes of Burning Tongue Syndrome

Some Causes of Burning Tongue Syndrome

1. Dry Mouth

Dry mouth is one of the causes of burning tongue. That is why it is recommended that we always drink enough water every day to keep our mouth moist and good for the oral environment and prevent burning tongue.

Many pregnant women experience dry mouth and this is a problem that must be resolved. But dry mouth can also occur in those of you who are not pregnant.

Sometimes the cause of dry mouth and lack of saliva is due to diseases of the salivary glands, taking certain medications, or due to hormonal changes. If the condition is chronic, this dryness of the mouth will cause a burning tongue sensation or is known as burning tongue syndrome.

One way to prevent dry mouth is to chew sugarless gum or sugar gum, drink enough water, or use a saliva substitute.

Getting enough water for saliva production does not have to drink water in total, you can also consume fruits that are rich in fluids and so on.

2. Malnutrition

The next cause of burning tongue is nutritional deficiency. There are certain nutrients that affect the health of your tongue.

If you lack these nutrients, you may experience a burning tongue sensation, among these vitamins are B vitamins, iron, zinc, and a deficiency can cause a burning tongue sensation or burning tongue syndrome.

One way to overcome and treat burning tongue syndrome is to eat a healthy diet, consume nutrient-rich vegetables, milk, whole grains, nuts and protein or supplements, but talk to your doctor before you take certain supplements to treat your problem.

Irritation in the mouth is also one of the causes of a burning tongue sensation. Irritation like this sometimes occurs due to mouthwash, consuming certain acidic drinks, or brushing the tongue excessively.

If the cause of burning tongue is because of irritation in the mouth like this, then you can treat your problem by drinking a little acidic drinks.

Talk to your doctor about how to brush your teeth properly and consult about mouthwashes that can cause irritation in the mouth.

4. Medication Side Effects

Burning tongue also occurs due to the effects of taking certain medications. For example, you are taking anti-depressant drugs and this is one that can cause burning tongue syndrome.

It is known that some medications can cause dry mouth and irritation. If you feel these side effects after taking certain drugs, consult the doctor who gave you the drug.

5. Oral Conditions

Poor oral health also affects the health of your tongue, this can make you sometimes feel a burning sensation. This oral condition can be due to canker sores, or the geographical condition of the tongue.

If this problem is the underlying cause of burning tongue syndrome, you can consult a dentist or dentist. They can diagnose your problem and provide the right solution for you.

6. Other possible causes

In addition to some of the causes above, there are many other causes of burning tongue. Some are easy to identify and some are not.

If your dentist says that there is no oral condition that is causing your tongue to burn, then you can consult with your doctor about other diseases.

sometimes there are other disorders such as diabetes, allergies, menopause, acid reflux, or there are other physical causes.

How to Treat Burning Tongue Syndrome?

If you experience a burning tongue sensation or scalded mouth syndrome, to soothe your tongue, try to avoid – for the time being – the use of mouthwash, chewing gum, tobacco, alcohol, acidic fruit juices, also avoid coffee for two weeks to see how your condition progresses.

Well, what is important for you to pay attention to is not to ignore your symptoms and problems. Once you experience burning tongue or burning tongue syndrome either in the mouth, tongue, inner cheeks, throat or gums, don’t ignore it.

See a doctor and talk about your problem so you get a solution. Because it could be that tongue burning occurs due to other health problems including diabetes or acid reflux.
