This is a dua for having a baby boy that written by Imam Sulaiman bin Muhammad Al-Bujairami in his book Tuhfatul Habîb ‘ala Syarhil Khathîb, this book is also known as Hâsyiyah Al-Bujairami ‘alal Khathîb. He wrote a prayer for parents to read so that they would be blessed with a son.

Transliteration: Bismillâhirrahmânirrahîm. Allâhumma innî usammî mâ fî bathnihâ Muhammadan faj’alhu lî dzakaran fainnahû yûladu dzakaran insyâ Allâhu ta’âlâ.

Translation: “O Allah, indeed I will name what is in her womb with the name Muhammad, so make him a son for me, because Muhammad was born as a son, God willing” (Sulaiman bin Muhammad Al-Bujairami, Tuhfatul Habîb ‘ala Syarhil Khathîb, (Beirut: Darul Kutub Al-Ilmiyah, 1996), juz I, p. 520).

In the book of Tuhfatul Habîb, there is also explained the procedure for reading the dua. When the husband reads the dua, he puts his right palm on the belly of the pregnant mother. So, the reading of the dua for having a baby boy was read when it was first discovered that pregnancy.

Imam Bujairami said that this dua is efficacious if it is read with full hope of Allah and this is has been practiced by many people repeatedly and it is true that they get a son according to their expectations.
