Pacu is a fish with human teeth. Pacu fish include river dwellers in South America and include the Amazon and the Orinoco rivers in the Amazonia lowlands. However, pacu fish are also reported to have been found in Papua New Guinea, where this fish was introduced artificially to help the local fish industry.

Pacu Fish

Pacu fish are still related to the Piranha fish which is known to eat meat (carnivores). They both are still in the subfamily Serrasalminae, but there are differences between the two. Pacu fish are said to be all-eating or omnivorous fish, this is indicated by their teeth that are similar to human teeth. While Piranha Fish is a type of meat-eating (carnivore). Piranhas have pointed teeth like thorns and Pacus fish have the same teeth as human teeth.

This fish with human teeth is an all-eater (omnivora), it uses its teeth to crush nuts and fruit. Not only that, sometimes pacu fish also eat other fish or other invertebrates. nuts or fruits that fall into the Amazon river, usually become food for them. By using its teeth, it can crush peanut shells and fruit skins. There are cases reported that in the Amazon River, pacu fish have attacked human testicles swimming because they thought they were nuts.

A toddler has to be operated on when a pacus fish breaks his finger at the Edinburgh Butterfly and Insect World in Scotland. Pacus fish will eat anything, even the finger of a child that looks wobbly. So said Deep Sea World zoological manager Matthew Kane warned.

Pacu fish can be legally owned in the United States. Fish with human teeth are easily found in ornamental fish stores and aquarium stores. However, you should know before putting pacu fish in an aquarium that this fish can grow up to 4 feet. So if you keep it in a home aquarium, this is too big. Then you have to provide a large aquarium. Many of those who raise pacu fish eventually have to throw it into a nearby lake because of its large growth.
