Hadith About Studying – Seeking religious knowledge is an obligation for every Muslim and Muslimat. There are many hadiths that explain the law of studying, especially religious knowledge. Religious knowledge is a means of being able to practice religion itself, which contains shari’a such as commands and prohibitions of Allah.
All Shari’a and worship have procedures and all of these are impossible to carry out without knowing or without knowledge of these procedures. So studying or seeking religious knowledge is obligatory for every mukallaf because the law is passed on to all believers.
The Obligation to Seek Religion knowledge
Worship is an obligation, we cannot worship without knowledge, so seeking knowledge is obligatory. This is called in the rule للوصائل حكم المقاصد which means that the intermediary is given the law of purpose. If in the case of worship, then what becomes wasail is knowledge about the procedures of worship, and the maqasid or purpose is worship. Now, if worship is obligatory, then wasail is also obligatory, so that the implementation of worship can be carried out.
For this reason, there are many arguments that show the obligation of a servant of Allah to study religion anywhere and anytime. Even in a hadith it is said that “the obligation to study knowledge is from the swing to the grave”, meaning that our obligation to study knowledge from childhood until we die, this indicates the importance of studying knowledge, especially the afterlife not world science. Because without knowledge of the hereafter, someone is certain to perish in the hereafter, but without knowledge of the world, someone is not necessarily perish in the world.
So, the reason it is obligatory to seek religious knowledge is strong and logical, because the purpose of life in this world is not for the world but for the hereafter. There is an expression that is very important for us to see about the life of this world.
“The world was created for us, but we were not created for the world but for the hereafter”
What does this phrase mean? The world was created for us, meaning that we use the life of this world as best as possible to find provisions for the afterlife that is eternal and eternal. But we need to think that we were not created for the world, so we are obliged to spend time for the essential future, which is life after death.
If this man were created for the world, truly Allah made this life without death. The fact is, Allah created man by death. So, it is clear that life in this world is for the sake of the hereafter. This world is very important for humans so that humans can find as much provisions as possible for the afterlife that we believe in and believe in.
To better understand the importance of studying Religion, in this paper we will share the hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad. which is important and even obligatory to study. The meaning of knowledge in the hadiths is that the knowledge of the hereafter is not the science of the world, because the hereafter is the real goal. There is one more phrase that is very heartrending and makes us think repeatedly about real life.
“If there is misery in the world, then the suffering is only temporary. But if it is miserable in the hereafter, then the suffering is forever.”
Also, no one is miserable in the world when he has the afterlife knowledge. People who understand religion will not suffer in this world but instead they will be happy both in this world and the hereafter. However, a person who does not understand religion, does not worship according to the recommendations and orders he is not necessarily happy in this world, if he is considered happy (considered), in the hereafter he will definitely suffer.
So, it is mandatory for all mukallaf is to seek after life or worship for the afterlife. Please seek worldly life but do not prevent us from seeking the afterlife. Looking for provisions to live in the world just to be able to live, then this is an obligation but do not make life in the world forget you for the hereafter because the hereafter is the real life.
Hadith About Seeking Religious Knowledge
Immediately, we look at the hadiths about studying, so that we better understand and understand the suggestions for studying.
Before we look at the hadith about studying, there is also a verse about the importance of knowledge or the high degree of knowledgeable people. Allah says in Q.S Al-Mujadalah verse 11.
It means: “O you who believe! When it is said to you,” Give space in the assembly, then make it clear, surely Allah will give you space. And when it says you stand up, then stand up, surely Allah will raise the rank of those who believe among you and those who are knowledgeable to several degrees “(Q.S Al-Mujadalah verse 11).
From that verse we understand that a knowledgeable person has a separate position with Allah because knowledgeable people understand how to worship as instructed by Allah. Only by studying can we understand how to worship. So let us be fervent in studying in dayahs, in Islamic boarding schools because seeking religious knowledge is an obligation for all servants of Allah.
