Specialty of Muharram

Muharram month is the first month of the hijriyyah calendar, it is said that muharram which means “forbidden” is because in this month Allah forbids fighting. Before the name Muharram, the first month in the Islamic calendar was called safar awwal.

The month of Muharram is syahrullah or the month of Allah, where in this month there are many features that Allah SWT has given us so that this month we are expected to increase our worship practices.

The Specialty of Muharram Month

The month of Muharram is a month in which it is forbidden to fight so that Muslims are obliged to stay away from it, the basis for the prohibition of fighting is clearly stated in the verse of Allah surah at-Taubah verse 36. Apart from verse 36 at taubat there is also the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad which describes the moon.

The following is the meaning of the verse at taubat 36 and the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad regarding the month, namely the hadith narrated by HR. Bukhari (3197) and Muslim (1679). Here we see what this means:

keistimewaan bulan muharram

Ok, below we will see more about the special month of Muharram with Allah SWT so that this month should be a month that we fulfill with religious practices.

1. Month of Muharram is the Month of Allah

About the month Muharram is the month of Allah, Rasulullah SAW said as follows:

“The most glorious fast after the fast of Ramadan is fasting in the month of Allah (Muharram), HR Muslim.”

So, after the third degree of fasting in Ramadan which is mandatory fasting, the fast that Allah likes is the circumcision fast in the month of Muharram, then we should increase our acts of worship in this month because every worship, especially fasting, has a very powerful feature.

2. Can perform sunnat fasting ‘Ashura

Ashura fasting is one of the sunnat fasts that has virtue, as the hadith above which explains that fasting which is quite high in rank after the fast of Ramadan is the month of Muharram.

Ashura fast is fasting on the tenth day of the month of Muharram. However, it is better if we observe fasting from the first day of Muharram to obtain the virtues.

3. Carry out the tasu’a worship

Apart from the Ashura fast, there is another fast in the month of Muuharram which has a high value, namely fasting on the ninth day of Muharram. In this case, Ibn Abbas once told Rasulullah SAW, here we will see the story.

“O Messenger of Allah ..! Indeed, today is a day that is glorified by the Jews and Christians.”

Then Rasulullah SAW answered ibn Abbas’s statement as follows:

“If next year, we will fast on the 9th day of Muharram”

Then Ibn Abas said again:

“Not yet next year, it turns out that Rasulullah SAW. Returned to Allah’s bosom.” (HR. Muslim no. 1134/2666)

4. Can carry out the Sunnat 11 fasting Muharram

How about fasting on 11 Muharram, based on the opinion of the scholars, fasting on the 11th day of Muharram is permissible and does not include bid’ah sayyiah.

The following hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad regarding this matter.

“Fast on the day of” Ashura “and distinguish it from the Jews. Fast before or after one day.” (HR Ahmad no. 2153, Al-Baihaqi in the book As-Sunan Al-Kubra no. 8189).

5. The great moon with Allah

Muharram month is a glorious and glorious month with Allah so that its existence is a good thing to add to the reward for the ummah of Muhammad SAW. So, by knowing the advantages and greatness of the month of Muharram, we are expected to be afraid of immorality and be more enthusiastic in doing good deeds.

6. Good for reproducing alms

One of the virtues of the month of Muharram is that it is good as a field to multiply alms because the value of alms is different with Allah compared to other months. Giving charity is one form of extraordinary virtue because of its benefits for the benefit of others, Allah says in the Qur’an surah al-Baqarah 195 and 215, as follows:

“And spend (your belongings) in the way of Allah, and do not throw yourself into destruction, and do good, for verily Allah loves those who do good.” Al Baqarah 195.

“They ask about what they provide. Answer:” Whatever wealth you provide, you should give it to mothers and fathers, relatives, orphans, poor people and people who are on the way. And whatever good you do, then Allah knows best. “Al Baqarah, 215.

7. Good for supporting orphans

Regarding the advantages and virtues of this day of Ashura, the Prophet Muhammad SAW said, “Whoever rubs his hand on the head of an orphan on the day of ‘Ashura (i.e. 10 Muharram), Allah will raise his degree, with each hair wiped one degree.”

Furthermore, in another hadith, the Prophet Muhammad said about the advantages of the month of Muharram as follows:

“I and the person who endured the life of the orphan were like these two fingers when in heaven.” He gestured with the index and middle fingers, and he separated them a little. “See sahih bukhari no. 5304.

8. Good for increasing family income

Furthermore, the priority of Muharram is on the day of Ashura, the tenth day. Rasulullah SAW said, whoever expands his family’s livelihood on the tenth day of Muharram (Ashura) then Allah will expand his sustenance throughout the year.

So, it is very good to attract sustenance, but in increasing the living for the family we should aim to get the pleasure of Allah, not get sustenance. Sustenance is as bonsu that Allah gives or can be said as the fadhilah of expanding this livelihood.

Those are some of the advantages and virtues of the month of Muharram, by knowing the virtues and strengths of this month we should be able to practice them in our lives. Moreover, now we are in the month of Muharram and actually have entered the 9th and 10th day of Muharram.
