Toothache Plant is also known as “Acmella oleracea”. It is a flowering plant belonging to herbal plants, it belongs to the Asteraceae family. This plant has many other names according to the place. For example, it is known as Brazil Cress, Para Cress, Eyeball Plant, Peek-ABoo Plant, Spot Flower and Perennial Para Cress.

In Brazil it is known as “jambu”, while in India, exactly in Maharashtra, it is called by ‘अक्कलकाढा’. This popular herb is a native Brazil plant. Toothache plants have spread throughout the world throughout the tropics, including America, Sri Lanka, northern Australia, Africa, India and Southeast Asia. Toothache plants are planted by most of the population as ornamental plants and as herbs for various diseases. Plants will die if planted in freezing climates and will continue to thrive when the climate is warm.

Plant description

The toothache plant is a perennial, upright, stout, herbaceous plant that grows to about 20 to 80 cm. The stem is upright and not rooted in the knot. This toothache plant grows wild in humid areas, in meadows, rice fields, villages, along ditches, cultivated areas, open trash cans, swampy meadows, along roads, and on hillsides. Usually toothaches prefer black soil which is rich in organic matter and has good drainage.

Toothache plants can also be grown in posts or containers, the leaves are round to triangular, not hairy. The leaves are about 5-11 cm long and 4 cm – 8 cm wide.

Flower & Fruit

The flower heads of the toothache plant are discrete and disc-shaped. It is borne in panicles carried on 2.5-16 cm long stalks in lead axils or terminal. The flower disc is 90-200 tubular, has 4-5 lobes. The flower followed by Achenes (a type of simple dry fruit) that is oval in shape, 3 mm long, 3 elbows, on the edge of a scab, the Pappus is located from the same two sub.

Usually, the flowers are used as ornamental and the head of the flower contains a large amount of analgesic, this is known as Spilanthol. Generally, it is used to treat tooth and gum pain. Maybe this is the reason why this plant is called by “toothache plant”.

Central Americans, belonging to the ancient tribes there, have long used the Spilanthes flower as a medicinal vegetable. It is a herb or spice for treating toothache, digestive problems, gum medicine and sore throat medicine. This plant has a strong smell. Indians use this plant as an additive in tobacco.

Around the world, this plant is often added to dishes and drinks so that it is widely available in kitchens around the world. It is also made as a steamed vegetable, and as a salad in America and is used as a complement in soups and meats dishes.

There is a historical possibility that the Acmella oleracea plant was introduced by the Portuguese to the Indian Ocean islands. Then the development was brought by Africa by workers from India.

Health Benefits of Toothache Plant

The health benefits of the Toothache plant are numerous. Generally, Toothache Plant is used as a medicine for oral diseases, rheumatism and fever and several other ailments. The flower heads have a spicy taste and are used as herbal remedies for tingling and numbness. Japanese people use leaves from the Toothache Plant as a remedy for gout and joint pain, rheumatism and arthritis.

Why is it good for toothaches? It turns out that this plant has anesthetic properties, meaning that this plant can increase saliva and is good for headaches. For oral diseases, we can treat it with the dried toothache plant flower heads. The decoction of the plant can be used to treat stone urine. 1. Loss of Libido

Toothache Plant is a plant that contains aphrodisiac and spermatogenic properties, which are said to stimulate sexual reactions in partners. In addition, the alkyl-amide present in Toothache Plant root is useful for producing testosterone. The benefits of consuming toothache plants can increase fertility and increase the number of spermatozoa.

2. Treating erectile dysfunction

This herb gives a reaction like that of the drug SILDENAFIL, but it does not increase high blood pressure like taking the drug. We recommend that you use a toothache with a combination of Kaunch Beej (Mucuna Pruriens) and Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) plants so that you get the maximum benefit from this traditional herb.

This herb provides a smooth flow of blood to the urogenital area and provides stronger erections over a longer duration. This drug is good for treating problems related to nerve weakness.

3. Treating pharyngitis and sore throat

To make a sore throat medicine, prepare 10 grams of the root of the toothache plant and boil it in 250 ml of water. This water should be used to rinse your mouth in order to relieve pharyngitis. This herb is also effective in treating toothache and gum.

4. Treating toothache

As the name suggests, this plant is very effective in treating toothaches. Mix the powder of this plant root with camphor and massage it on the aching tooth. Tootchache plant is also good to use with Vaividang (Embelia ribes), or mixed with Ajwain Khurasani (Hyoscyamus Niger) and black pepper. Plant powder

To treat colds, take Anacyclus pyrethrum root powder, mix it with pepper and black pepper. This herb contains anti-viral which is useful for fighting the common cold and relieving nasal congestion.

Toothache plants can also treat headaches because they are analgesic. Make a toothache plant leaf as a paste and apply it on the forehead. Or it can also be treated with juice from toothache plant extracts, put a few drops of this plant leaf juice into the nose.

14. Benefits of toothache plant to treat digestion

What is used here is the root of the toothache, the root has sialagogue and cholagogue properties. This property can increase saliva secretion, can improve digestion and increase digestive fluids such as saliva, stomach acid and bile.

15. Good for flatulence

Toothache plant contains anti-bacterial and anti-microbial properties. This substance will prevent and manage water borne and air borne infections.

17. Facial Neuralgia

The health benefits of the toothache plant are also used in treating facial neuralgia. The root extract of the plant can reduce swelling of the arteries and reduce pain.
