Taqwa is something that is important for every Muslim, without taqwa then a person is not perfect in Islam. So, What is Taqwa means? Why is piety important? And what are the benefits of taqwa? We will explain this in detail here, please read on!
What Is Taqwa Mean?
Taqwa is carrying out Allah’s commands and leaving His prohibitions, either openly or secretly or in a quiet place. When we are able to follow the commands of Allah Almighty and are able to leave the prohibitions, then we already have taqwa in our hearts. Taqwa is fear, fear of Allah if we do not obey Him. Fear of Allah is different from fear of creatures, because fear of Allah is to draw us closer to Him, not by distancing ourselves from Him as we distance ourselves from wild animals.
So, it can be said that taqwa is the key to the success of a Muslim either in this world or in the hereafter. When a person is successful in this world because of carrying out Allah’s commands, then God willing, he will also be successful in the hereafter. Life in this world is to find provisions for the afterlife, so every practice in this world is a manifestation of the afterlife.
Someone who has taqwa in his heart, he will act according to the rules that have been outlined by Allah and His Messenger. Growing taqwa is difficult and this must be practiced continuously so that it is engraved in the heart. When our hearts are filled with fear of Allah, then automatically all of His commands will be easy to carry out and all the prohibitions can be prevented.
That’s a glimpse of the meaning of taqwa, and how or what is the importance of taqwa? Below we will explain and we take the verses of the Koran that explain about taqwa.
Importance of Taqwa in Islam
Allah is the creator of everything, the creator of all things apart from Him. Allah is the only God, and besides Him is not God but His creation. Allah loves His servants very much, with His character ar-Rahman, this shows that Allah loves all His creatures and this is mentioned in the Qur’an, the holy book that revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Allah says in chapter 58, verse 9 which means:
“O, you who believe! When you hold secret counsel, do it not for sin and wrong-doing, and disobedience towards the Messenger (Muhammad SAW) but do it for Al-Birr (righteousness) and Taqwa (virtues and piety), and fear Allah unto Whom you shall be gathered.” (Quran, 58:9)
From this verse of Allah we know that taqwa is not only taqwa, but it is a combination of piety, our faith, our awareness of His rules, and our attitude in everyday life. It is a reminder for us to always be on His way or in His rules. Know what is right and what is wrong and then act accordingly. Fear of Allah (taqwa) is to draw closer to Allah, the way is to obey His rules, carry out His commands and leave His prohibitions. In Quran, Allah says that mean:
“O ye who believe! Fear God and be with those who are true (in word and deed).” (Quran, 9:119)
In the Qur’an and Sunnah, Tawqa is said to be a concept to protect oneself from the fire of hell by following Allah’s commands and leaving all His prohibitions. In the Quran, Allah says which means:
“And unto Allah belong all that is in the Heavens and all that is on Earth. And, verily, We have recommended to the people of the Scripture before you, and to you (O Muslims) that you (all) fear Allah and keep your duty to Him, But if you disbelieve, then unto Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth, and Allah is Ever Rich, Worthy of all praise.” (Quran, 4:131)
Taqwa is an attitude that makes a person loved by Allah, makes a person get His pleasure and is far from Allah’s punishment. In a hadith, Rasulullah SAW said which means:
“Fear Allah because it is the collection of all goodness.” From above ayahs and hadith, we can conclude that if we want to be successful l, and want to get Allah’s blessings and pleasure then we should fear Allah and have to do the righteous deeds which are the source of pleasing Allah Almighty.
Benefits of Taqwa from Quran
Now we see what are the benefits of taqwa, as mentioned in the Quran.
1. Get guidance
Al-Quran is a guide for taqwa people, so with an attitude of taqwa we can take guidance from the Koran.
Allah says which means: “guidance for those conscious of Allah” (Quran, 2:2). The people that taqwa or as Muttaqiin, he will get the guide from the Quran.
2. Ease of Matters
Allah says which means: “And whoever fears Allah, He will make for him ease in his matter.” (Quran, 65:4).
Allah makes things easy for the muttaqiin, both in this world and in the hereafter. It does not mean that he is free from the difficulties of life, but with this piety he is guaranteed to be able to bear and solve all his problems. Sometimes the difficulties given are as a test to increase his taqwa, and put him in a higher place.
Even if he experiences difficulties, with taqwa he is able to be patient and willing to His decision, this will further elevate his rank in the sight of Allah and Allah will give a great reward (reward) in the hereafter.

5. Acceptance of Actions
Taqwa is a tool for someone so that Allah accepts his deeds. Allah says in the Quran which means:

Everyone who is a muttaqin, Allah accepts their practice and Allah loves them.
6. Unexpected Sustenance
Allah gives unexpected sustenance to the Muttaqin, as long as His servant is taqwa, Allah will fulfill his needs and even provide unexpected sustenance.
Allah says which means:
“And if the people of the towns believed and had Taqwa, certainly We should have opened for them blessings from the heavens and the earth.” (Quran, 7:96)
7. Salvation from the Fire
Hellfire is a form of punishment provided to His servants who disobey, either Muslims who commit sins, or non-Muslims who disobey Him. But there is a difference in terms of punishment, a Muslim who commits a sin will be burned in hell until his sins are dissolved and then lifted and put into heaven (but his time in hell can be thousands of years).
While non-Muslims will be punished in hell for disobeying Him, and they will eternally in hell. Unbelievers (non-Muslims) will always be in hell without end. See more: Description of Hell in the Qurʾān (Islam)
For those who are Muttaqin, Allah promises salvation from the fire of hell, Allah says in the Qur’an which means:
“Then We will save the ones who had taqwa“(Quran, 19:72).
So, whoever wants to be saved from hell fire, be Muttaqin, if you haven’t converted to Islam, then enter Islam and be a taqwa person.
8. Ability to distinguish truth from falsehood
Someone who is concerned with taqwa, he will be guided by Allah to be His servant who is able to see truth as truth and error as error. He can distinguish between the true and false.
In Holy Quran Allah says that mean: “O you who believe! If you fear Allah, He will grant you a criterion (furqan).” (Quran, 8:29)
9. Luck
A person who is taqwa, he gets good luck with Allah SWT. This is as Allah says in the Quran which means:
“Have taqwa of Allah in order that you might succeed” (Quran, 3:200).
Whoever wants to be successful in this world and in the hereafter, then the only way is to be pious or Muttaqiin. Because only with taqwa is a servant able to carry out His orders and leave His prohibitions. When this is done sincerely, his heart is clean because of Allah, then he gets the pleasure of Allah.
10. Tranquility
A priceless treasure is the serenity of life, someone who is devoted to Allah will find peace and be far from stress. Everything is in God’s control, so there is no way for stress or hardship. We leave all matters to Allah, and we are pleased with all His provisions.
Allah says in Holy Quran that mean: “It is He (Allah) who sent down tranquility into the hearts of the believers.” (Quran, 48:4).
Someone whose life is not calm, the cure is taqwa, when our soul is taqwa and pleased with Allah’s provisions, then the heart will be happy, calm and peaceful.
The Taqwa is the fear of Allah that makes us carry out His commands and leave His prohibitions. With this taqwa, a person will get a meaningful life in the sight of Allah, he will get the pleasure of Allah, and this is the goal of each of His servants.
