Zoloft and Alcohol – What is Zoloft? Medical experts give a warning that we do not consume alcohol while consuming Zoloft. What exactly is the risk behind all this? What is the effect if someone mix Zoloft with alcohol?

Before we see further explanation, we need to know what Zoloft is? Zoloft is a commonly available anti-depressant, it has the generic name “sertraline“. When someone uses Zoloft, he will change my mood and behavior, including depression, anxiety and OCD or obsessive-compulsive disorder.

In this article, we will look at the Zoloft and alcohol mixing effect and what to do if someone has taken them together or in a short time span.

Zoloft and Alcohol, Is it Safe to Mix

Is Zoloft dangerous?

Zoloft and alcohol are two drugs that affect brain performance. In fact, they can have the same sampig effects on the brain. For example, making someone feel sleepy, can not make a decision, and can not think clearly. So, when both drugs are taken at the same time or in the same time the adverse health effects will be higher and more severe.

So, on this basis, health experts recommend that patients do not consume alcohol while taking Zoloft.

Research conducted on healthy people that Zoloft does not provide side effects as caused by alcohol that affects mental and motor. However, if both are mixed there is little evidence that the ill effects of alcohol will be higher. So medical professionals give a warning not to drink alcohol when going to or just drinking Zoloft.

Bottom line: People should avoid alcohol when they are depressed, why? because alcohol is a depressant, and if someone drinks alcohol when depressed, especially in large quantities, it will have an adverse effect and even fatal to health.

What are the Effects of Zoloft and Alcohol?

Basically, mixing both (Zoloft and alcohol) can affect brain function)

Consuming alcohol can cause interference with the brain, where the messenger activity in the brain will be reduced and this is known as neurotransmitters. While Zoloft is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), it means: this drug will change the level of a neurotransmitter called serotonin.

Drinking alcohol can reduce the activity of neurotransmitters and reduce the amount of mental and physical stimulation. This can cause bad effects as below:

  • There is an ataction or lack of muscle coordination
  • Reduced anxiety
  • Reduced inhibitions
  • Increased drowsiness
  • Damaged memory
  • It’s hard to think clearly
  • Decreased pain perception
  • Euphoria
  • Low blood pressure
  • Decreased heart rate
  • In the case of too much alcohol, it can cause death

Zoloft also affects brain chemicals. Alcohol affects many neurotransmitters. More specifically, Zoloft causes decreased serotonin in the brain or seroronin imbalance. Serotonin is a compound that is involved in regulating mood, behavior, and motivation.

Zoloft, besides regulating mood, zoloft can also provide some side effects such as:

  • Nausea
  • drowsiness
  • Sleep disturbance
  • Nervous
  • Headache
  • Diarrhea
  • Stomach ache
  • Reduced libido
  • Changes in appetite
  • S3xual health disorders
  • Dry mouth

Zoloft and alcohol have several similar side effects, and these effects will occur more quickly when someone drinks alcohol and consumes Zoloft.

Biasnya, people who drink alcohol while taking zoloft experience sleep problems, such as feeling sleepy or unable to sleep through the night, even someone also looks dizzy and behavior is not coordinated.

Zoloft and Other Drugs

Zoloft can also interact with other medicines and certain supplements. So, before taking Zoloft you have to tell what medicine you have taken so that the doctor can advise or consider your medicine, considering that Zoloft is a drug that can interact with other drugs. It is possible that the doctor will replace the medicine when you know that you have taken Zoloft.

If you use anidepressants such as pimozide or monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), then you should not take zoloft because it is an antipsychotic drug.

Among other drugs that can interact with Zoloft are:

  • Obtas that affect serotonin, such as tramadol, antidepressants, and linezolid.
  • Warfarin and other drugs are very bound to plasma protein
  • Drugs that affect the central nervous system such as anti-seizure drugs, triptans, and drugs to cure migraines.

In addition, other drugs also interact with Zoloft. So when someone will take Zoloft then he must consult with a health care provider so that he knows what medicines have been taken.

Summary

Health experts warn you not to consume alcohol when someone is consuming Zoloft. Both have similar effects so that combining the two in the body can cause fast and strong side effects.

In addition, alcohol is a bad drink for health, only in a few small things it is good to use. But actually, the essence of alcoholic beverages is killing, not improving health. Drinking alcohol can worsen depressive symptoms because it is a central nervous system depressant.

If you don’t know fully about Zoloft, you can ask your local medical expert or health service provider.
