Zumba exercises are fast and relaxed movements. Zumba comes from the Colombian word for fun, and to move fast. So, Zumba is a healthy heart exercise that is easy to follow and fun to do. The movement is in the form of a dance so that it is said to be aerobics in the form of a dance accompanied by Latin and international songs.

By accident, this Zumba exercise was born from a man named Alberto Perez, he accidentally did not read the musical instruments he usually used. Finally, he also uses and plays dance music for his gymnastics. As it turned out, this accidental appearance made many gymnastics followers love it. Finally, Perez took a businessman to print his DVDs and sell DVDs with Latin music, and they named this exercise as Zumba.

Little by little the unique gymnastics became famous, culminating when Perez wrote guides and gave many trainings in various places. Until now, this exercise has been very well known and worldwide and has been practiced by more than 40 countries. Zumba gymnastics is not only practiced by adults, but it is also practiced by children aged 5 to 12 years. Now in its development, Zumba does not only use Latin music but also uses more passionate music such as hip hop.

Movements in Zumba Gymnastics

This exercise, which was born from an aerobics, has several movements, there are at least 6 Zumba movements for beginners that you can follow. Are as follows:

1. Heating

Warming up is an important form of movement in every exercise, including Zumba. This warm-up is done with the aim of avoiding injury in training. The usual form of warm-up is jogging or walking in a place with a 2X8 count. Then, cross your legs to the right and the left with a count of 2X8 times as well.

This movement is repeated twice either a jogging motion or a cross leg motion.

2. Salsa movements

As quoted from Livestrong, one of the distinctive forms of movement in Zumba is the salsa movement, this is a typical Latin American movement where this gymnastics was born, and this should not be missed even if it is done by beginners.

To do the salsa, start with the basics, take a left step and shake your hips, legs, hands and body towards the left. Then, bring your legs together and move your body, doing the same pattern with your right leg. Do this movement for 2X8 movements.

3. Merengue movement

Apart from the salsa movement, there is another movement in zumba, this is the merengue movement. This movement is done by stretching both hands to the side, then pulling the right hand inward and downward. Merengue movements are carried out while swinging the hips to the right. Feet must be paid attention to keep walking in place.

Do the same thing when you pull your left hand inside and down. Swing your hips also to the left and keep your right foot in place.

4. Reggaeton movement

There is also a reggaeton movement in Zumba exercise or it is also called the reggae movement. In doing this movement, place your hands in front of your chest in a 90 degree shape. Move your right foot one step forward, then alternately pull your left leg forward. Footwork can be done with two steps forward or one step forward on both feet.

When the foot is stepped forward, the hand is moved as if rowing in the direction that matches the direction of the foot. This movement is done 2X8 times.

5. The Cumbia Movement

This is a dance movement like the Latin movement which is also one of the movements in Zumba. To do this movement you must involve several leg movements. The purpose of this movement is to tighten the thigh muscles, stomach, arms and waist.

The trick is: stand straight with a sideways direction, and move your right foot back and forth, what you need to remember is that the part of the foot that touches the ground is only the tip of the foot. Shake your body as you move your legs back and forth. The number is 1X8 times.

6. Finish with cooling

One of the important movements that signal the end of Zumba is the cool-down movement. This cooling movement is nothing different, it’s just that you slow down the movement of the exercise. The breath must also be managed properly, the slower the movement, the slower the breath must be.
