Bagworm Moth Caterpillar, ‘Log House’ Like Cocoon

The Bagworm moth (Psychidae) is a moth that belongs to the Lepidoptera family. In the world of agriculture or plants, perhaps it is more known as a plant pest. But different, to lepidopteran experts, these are newly hatched moths and are known as extraordinary architects in nature. Immediately after hatching, this little moth makes a cocoon or the house where it lives in the form of a cocoon.

The material is taken from various objects that exist when it becomes a cocoon, this bus is in the form of rnating, wood or wooden leaves. He will live in his own architectural home while pupating. The structure of the house is sometimes referred to as “case” while the small caterpillar inside is called “case caterpillar”. This makes it an extraordinary animal in the eyes of researchers in the scope of lepidoptera.

Bagworm Moth Caterpillar

This bagworm or bagworm whether it is on a rock, in wood or in various other places, it does not just stay there. These pocket worms will continue to be their food. Wherever he goes, he will carry his pouch made of these various materials. This is as a protector and as a disguise if there are enemies who will attack. Along with increasing in size, this bagworm will add to its branch by adding various types of twigs it finds. Apart from strengthening the pockets, it also increases its size as it increases its size.

When enlarging the pouch, this bagworm will stick its head over the top and collect wood chips or twigs to make its home. When walking in search of food, it will pop its head and push the bag little by little in the direction it wants.

The bag structure is so strong that even if we think about it there is no way this small and flabby animal could make a structure for this extraordinary house. But by Allah’s destiny, everything can be made by such fat creatures. This shows the existence of God’s intervention or the existence of God’s will so that he is able to make a place to live at once as good as an extraordinary disguise. With its pouch, the bagworm moth can camouflage itself from predators such as birds and insects.

The bag size of the bagworm moth ranges from one cm to 15 cm as in some types of bagworm moths in tropical places. Each species has a different type of architecture with varying sizes.

Most of the time this bag-cancing moth is spent in its pouch as a caterpillar. This caterpillar remains in the case or bag until it becomes an adult moth. The male caterpillar is different, it will come out of its case when it is finished from the pupal phase. He flies into a female caterpillar to remarry. Once married, these female moths lay their eggs in their old pouches. Once hatched, the larvae will make their own bag house structure.
