How to Perform Eid Salah

How to Perform Eid Salah – Now, we are in the month of Zulhijjah or the month of Hajj, as Muslims we will do the Eid al-Adha prayer or the Eid Fitr. Do you already know how to do the Eid prayer? Eid al-Adha Salah are performed in the month of Zulhijjah on the 10th of Zulhijjah.

The Salah of Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr are performed in two rak’ahs and both are sunnat. But many of us are confused about the procedure, maybe because we do it twice a year, namely Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr. Here we will provide a guide on how to do the Eid al-Adha Salah. Let’s take a look so that our memory of the procedure for praying can come back fresh.

What to Do before Starting?

Before starting the Eid al-Adha Salah or Eid al-Fitr, it is sunnat for all who want to go to the place where the Salah are held in congregation to wear the best clothes they have, wear perfume and if Eid al-Adha is sunnat for us to refrain from eating and drinking until we finish praying. Meanwhile, when celebrating Eid al-Fitr, we are sunnat to eat first because previously we have been fasting for a whole month.

In addition, when Salah Eid al-Adha, it is sunnat to be earlier than doing the Eid Salah. This is because after the Eid al-Adha Salah there is the slaughter of a sacrificial animal, so the Salah time is accelerated.

Eid al-Adha or Eid al-Fitr is a celebration of the day of victory. Victory after Ramadan fasting and victory after fasting Arafah for those who did not perform the pilgrimage, and victory for having performed the pilgrimage for those who did it in the Baitullah.

When we leave the house and want to go to the mosque or to the place where Eid al-Adha Salah are held in congregation, we are sunnat to read takbir as a symbol of victory. This is: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar. La ilaaha illa-llaah, wa-llaahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, wa li-llaahil hamd.

Before the Eid Fitr Salah or Eid al-Adha there is no sunnat Salah that is performed unless you are do it in the mosque, then it is voluntary for those who enter the mosque to do two rak’ats of the tahiyatul mosque Salah. In a hadith Rasulullah SAW said: ‘The Prophet (saw) went out to the place of prayer on the Day of Fitr and prayed two raka’ah of Eid prayer, not praying before or after them’. [Bukhari]

Just like other prayers, don’t forget niyyah when you start praying, when you say takbiratul ihram, then present niyyah in your heart. If you want to say it too, then you can say it before starting takbiratul ihram. Lafadh niyyah is: ‘I intend to pray two raka’ah of the Eid al-Fitr/Eid al-Adha prayer for Allah facing the Kaaba‘.

The First Rak’ah

Now start your Salah by raising your hands to the level of your ears for men and shoulder height for women, when you raise your hands, recite the Takbiratul ihram (Allahukabar) and include the niyyah in your heart. When finished takbiratul ihram, then place your hands under the chest and above the navel. The right hand is above the left hand and slightly tilted to the left or below the heart.

Read the iftitah dua or prayer opening prayer. These are: WajjahTu Wajhiya lillazi fatharassamawati wal ardha hanifammusliman wama Ana minal Mushrikin. Inna Salati Wa nusuki Wa mahyaya, wamamati, lillahieabbil ‘alamiin. La syarikalahu wa bi zalika umirtu wa ana minal muslimin.

After the iftitah dua, now the Imam read the takbir by raising his hand (to the level of the ear) and is followed by the congregation 7 times. And after that, the imam reads al-Fatihah by reading the basamalah as one of the verses of al-Fatihah (Shafie’s school). After that read the Surah and the congregation (makmum) listens to the Imam’s reading.

The Second Rak’ah

After that, the Imam will bow and follow by the makmum and the rest is the same as any other prayer.

After completing the Eid Adha Salah or Eid al-Fitr, the Imam now goes to the pulpit to read the two pillars of the Khutbah like on Friday’s khutbah. However, the law of reading the Khutbah on Eid al-Adha or Eid al-Fitr is sunnat.
