Ramadan is a vehicle to become our teacher in controlling our passions so that we are closer to God and become devoted to Him. Ok, actually the essence of Eid is as a means and opportunity to get forgiveness from Allah SWT, the day we get liberation from hell fire.

So, it is wrong if we don’t fast and then be happy with the Eid, because in fact those eid fitri are a day of victory for the servant who gets the forgiveness of Allah SWT. If we don’t fast, how can we get victory. That is why we have to do everything in our power to keep our fasts successful and on Eid al-Fitr we are one of the servants of Allah who have won by getting forgiveness from Him.

The Essence and Purpose of Eid

One verse states that:

“It is not a Eid for people who wear new clothes, but it is for people whose obedience is increased to Allah SWT. Not also for people who pretend to be in new clothes and luxury vehicles, but for people who get forgiveness from Allah. “

That is the essence of Eid, so don’t worry if later we can’t afford to buy new clothes, can’t buy a vehicle or can’t have fun like most of our friends. Because actually Allah gave this Eid is for those who increase their obedience to Allah after a month full of fighting lust.

The Story of Caliph Umar bin Abdul Aziz

There is an interesting story that we need to look at, this story happened to an Islamic caliph and his son.

Once upon a time, one day, namely a feast day, the caliph Umar bin Abdul ‘Aziz saw his son wearing worn and shabby clothes, he cried seeing him. The son then asked, O abi why are you crying? He replied, I was crying for fear that if you see other children dressed in new clothes, your heart will break and be upset.

But, it turned out that his son answered: O Amirul Mukminin, do not be sad because in fact those who grieve are people who today do not get the pleasure of Allah. But I, with your blessings be pleased with me, I hope that Allah SWT will bless me today.

Then the Caliph Umar bin Abdul ‘Aziz was moved and cried because he was happy to hear what his son said. then he hugged his son and kissed his forehead.

That is an extraordinary story that we should contemplate, that the Eid is a day to get forgiveness so that we deserve to celebrate. Not a day to put on new clothes or show off a new vehicle.
