Surah al Fajr is one of the surahs in the Quran, it is the 89th surah in the Koran. This surah consists of 30 verses and is a Makkiyah surah because it was revealed in Mecca. The surah fajr was revealed after surah al-Lail.
Get to know more about surah al-Fajr
In Arabic it is called by the name: الفجر, which means “The Dawn”, “Daybreak”. This is the 89th surah in the surahs of the Koran. Surah Fajr consists of 30 verses. The verses of this surah contain about the resurrection and many warnings. The verse is short but has a very broad meaning.
In the first part of the surah there are several oaths that are mentioned. This is a warning for those who violate the rules of Allah. Allah alone is in control and nothing else. If the servant makes a mistake, He will be punished as He has been given to people who lived in the past.
In another part of surah fajr, it mentions some rebellions in the past, such as that of ‘Ad, and Thamud. So did Fir’aun who claimed to be God. Then Allah SWT. destroy the people, this is a warning to His servants that there is no power but only belongs to Allah. This is a warning that people who live after it, namely the Ummah of the Prophet Muhammad SAW. obey the rules brought by the Prophet Muhammad PBUH, as a teaching from Allah SWT.
Furthermore, in Surah Fajr it is also mentioned about human trials and negligence in doing good deeds. Meanwhile, at the end of Surah Fajr, it is mentioned about the fate of the wrongdoers, the disbelievers, when the Day of Judgment comes. This will be very different from believers who are given a great reward for them.
Surah Fajr: Virtue and benefits
We will see what are the benefits and virtues of Surah Fajr. In a hadith the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said that whoever recites Surah Fajr, Allah will forgive his sins 10 times the number of people who recite it. While on the Day of Judgment he will be given a bright light.
In addition, the benefit of reciting Surah Fajr is to get good offspring and become pride. With Allah’s permission, if the reading of Surah Fajr is done sincerely, it is solely for the sake of Allah. God willing, he will be given a good offspring.
Surah Fajr in Arabic, Transliteration and Translation
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
1. وَالْفَجْرِ
Wal-Fajr
By the break of Day
2. وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ
Wa layaalin ‘ashr
By the Nights twice five;
3. وَالشَّفْعِ وَالْوَتْرِ
Wash shaf’i wal watr
By the even and odd (contrasted);
4. وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ
Wallaili izaa yasr
And by the Night when it passeth away;-
5. هَلْ فِي ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِذِي حِجْرٍ
Hal fee zaalika qasamul lizee hijr
Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand?
6. أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ
Alam tara kaifa fa’ala rabbuka bi’aad
Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the ´Ad (people),-
7. إِرَمَ ذَاتِ الْعِمَادِ
Iramaa zaatil ‘imaad
Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars,
8. الَّتِي لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِي الْبِلَادِ
Allatee lam yukhlaq misluhaa fil bilaad
The like of which were not produced in (all) the land?

9. وَثَمُودَ الَّذِينَ جَابُوا الصَّخْرَ بِالْوَادِ
Wa samoodal lazeena jaabus sakhra bil waad
And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?-
10. وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِي الْأَوْتَادِ
Wa fir’awna zil awtaad
And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes?
11. الَّذِينَ طَغَوْا فِي الْبِلَادِ
Allazeena taghaw fil bilaad
(All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands,
12. فَأَكْثَرُوا فِيهَا الْفَسَادَ
Fa aksaroo feehal fasaad
And heaped therein mischief (on mischief).
13. فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ
Fasabba ‘alaihim Rabbuka sawta ‘azaab
Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements:
14. إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِالْمِرْصَادِ
Inna Rabbaka labil mirsaad
For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower.
15. فَأَمَّا الْإِنْسَانُ إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ رَبُّهُ فَأَكْرَمَهُ وَنَعَّمَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَكْرَمَنِ
Fa ammal insaanu izaa mab talaahu Rabbuhoo fa akramahoo wa na’ ‘amahoo fa yaqoolu Rabbeee akraman
Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), “My Lord hath honoured me.”

16. وَأَمَّا إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَهَانَنِ
Wa ammaaa izaa mabtalaahu faqadara ‘alaihi rizqahoo fa yaqoolu Rabbeee ahaanan
But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), “My Lord hath humiliated me!”
17. كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ لَا تُكْرِمُونَ الْيَتِيمَ
Kalla bal laa tukrimooo nal yateem
Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans!
18. وَلَا تَحَاضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ الْمِسْكِينِ
Wa laa tahaaaddoona ‘alaata’aamil miskeen
Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!-
19. وَتَأْكُلُونَ التُّرَاثَ أَكْلًا لَمًّا
Wa taakuloonat turaasa aklal lammaa
And ye devour inheritance – all with greed,
20. وَتُحِبُّونَ الْمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا
Wa tuhibboonal maala hubban jammaa
And ye love wealth with inordinate love!
21. كَلَّا إِذَا دُكَّتِ الْأَرْضُ دَكًّا دَكًّا
Kallaaa izaaa dukkatil ardu dakkan dakka
Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder,
22. وَجَاءَ رَبُّكَ وَالْمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا
Wa jaaa’a Rabbuka wal malaku saffan saffaa
And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank,
23. وَجِيءَ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِجَهَنَّمَ ۚ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ الْإِنْسَانُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ الذِّكْرَىٰ
Wa jeee’a yawma’izim bi jahannnam; Yawma ‘iziny yatazakkarul insaanu wa annaa lahuz zikraa
And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him?
24. يَقُولُ يَا لَيْتَنِي قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِي
Yaqoolu yaa laitanee qaddamtu lihayaatee
He will say: “Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!”
25. فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُ أَحَدٌ
Fa Yawma izil laa yu’azzibu ‘azaabahooo ahad
For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict,

26. وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُ أَحَدٌ
Wa laa yoosiqu wasaaqa hooo ahad
And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind.
27. يَا أَيَّتُهَا النَّفْسُ الْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ
Yaaa ayyatuhan nafsul muthma ‘innah
(To the righteous soul will be said:) “O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction!
28. ارْجِعِي إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَرْضِيَّةً
Irji’eee ilaa Rabbiki raadiyatam mardiyyah
“Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him!
29. فَادْخُلِي فِي عِبَادِي
Fadkhulee fee ‘ibaadee
“Enter thou, then, among My devotees!
30. وَادْخُلِي جَنَّتِي
Wadkhulee jannatee
“Yea, enter thou My Heaven!
