Fluconazole (Diflucan), Anti-Fungal Drugs

This time we will discuss the Fluconazole. It is a drug used to treat fungus wherever it infects. Some parts of the body that are often infected with fungi are as follows:

  • esophagus
  • Mouth
  • Esophagus,
  • Genitals
  • Abdomen
  • lungs
  • hand nail
  • Toe nails
  • Blood and several other organs.

Fluconazole is only used to treat fungus but is also used to prevent yeast infections.

There are other benefits of Fluconazole, it is also used in treating meningitis. This is an infection of the membranes covering the brain and spine.

The way Fluconazole works is by slowing the growth of the fungus that causes infection. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the use of Fluconazole to eradicate the fungus since 1990. This drug is sold under the brand name Diflucan.

Where is Fluconazole used?

The uses of Fluconazole include:

  1. Blastomycosis
  2. Candidemia
  3. Candida Urinary Tract Infection
  4. Coccidioidomycosis – Meningitis
  5. Coccidioidomycosis
  6. Cryptococcal Meningitis – Immunocompetent Host
  7. Cryptococcosis
  8. Cryptococcal Meningitis – Immunosuppressed Host
  9. Esophageal Candidiasis
  10. Fungal Pneumonia
  11. The fungal Infection Prophylaxis
  12. Fungal Peritonitis
  13. Onychomycosis – Fingernail
  14. Onychomycosis – Toenail
  15. Histoplasmosis
  16. Oral Thrush
  17. Fungal Infection – Disseminated
  18. Vaginal Candidiasis
  19. Systemic Candidiasis
  20. Sporotrichosis

Important Information about Fluconazole (Diflucan)?

The Fluconazole is prohibited for its use for those with allergies. Many drugs can interact and can cause harm. There are also some that should not be used concurrently with Fluconazole. If you are currently using the Fluconazole, your health care with other drugs will be suspended.

Here we have released several types of drugs that can interact with Fluconazole. If you are currently using this medicine tell your doctor not to take Fluconazole. Some of these drugs are:

  • Cisapride, tolvaptan, fentanyl, pimozide, methadone, tofacitinib, or a vitamin A supplement;
  • an antibiotic, antiviral medicine, antifungal;
  • a blood thinner;
  • cholesterol medication;
  • cancer medicine;
  • oral diabetes medicine;
  • steroid medicine.
  • medicine for malaria or tuberculosis;
  • heart or blood pressure medication;
  • medicine to prevent organ transplant rejection;
  • an NSAID (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug);
  • medicine to treat depression or mental illness;
  • seizure medicine

Apart from not being able to take it together with the drugs above, you also have to tell your doctor before taking Fluconazole if you suffer from:

  • liver disease;
  • heart problems; or
  • If you are allergic to other anti-fungal drugs such as (ketoconazole, posaconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole, miconazole, and others).

The liquid in fluconazole is a liquid that contains glucose. If you have a health problem that makes it difficult to digest sugar, tell your doctor.

In addition, fluconazole is harmful to the fetus. So if you use fluconazole. Use contraceptives when having sex with husband and wife to prevent temporary pregnancy. This is the case if you are breastfeeding, so do not take this medication or consult an obstetrician.

Side Effects of Fluconazole (Diflucan)

The side effect of Fluconazole is an allergy for those of you who have experienced allergies. Among the symptoms of allergies that may occur are itching, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, or swelling of the throat, and it can also be a severe skin reaction, then it can be fever, burning eyes, skin pain, red or purple rash on the skin. . If you experience these things, get medical help immediately for fast handling.

Contact your doctor immediately if you experience:

  • Palpitations or fast heartbeat, burning chest, sudden dizziness, shortness of breath.
  • Seizures
  • Skin lethargy or skin rash,
  • Liver problems, loss of appetite, abdominal pain on the upper right side, clay-like stools, dark urine, jaundice, yellowing of the eyes,

While the common side effects of fluconazole are:

  • Nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Dizzy,
  • There is a change in your sense of taste.

What we mentioned above are not all the side effects, it is possible that other things can happen. So, if you are currently taking Fluconazole and find anything suspicious, contact the FDA immediately at 1-800-FDA-1088.

Can I take Fluconazole (Diflucan) if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

Use is dangerous for pregnant women because it harms the unborn baby. Use contraception to prevent pregnancy.

Drugs and food should Avoided while taking Fluconazole (Diflucan)?

As long as you take Fluconazole, then do not drive and do not do other dangerous activities such as climbing trees, or riding your own boat. This drug can give reactions that interfere with your activities.
