Types of Hajj: Hajj ul-Ifrad, Hajj ul-Qiran, and Hajj ul-Tamattu’

Types of Hajj, ifrad, qiran and tamattu

What are the types of Hajj? Hajj is a very important worship in Islam and is one of the five pillars of Islam. Well, before you carry out the pilgrimage, you must first know how the process is carried out and what types of Hajj you can do. By knowing this information, you can choose what type of Hajj you will perform there, according to your ability.

There are three types of Hajj, and each has its own way of performing it. However, among the three types of Hajj that you can perform, the Hajj ul-Ifard is the best and the more reliable one to do. Well, we will explain the three below after knowing the three types.

Three Types of Hajj You Can Performed.

  1. Hajj ul Ifrad
  2. Hajj ul-Qiran
  3. The Hajj ul-Tamattu

So, whether you will choose Hajj Ifrad, Qiran or tamattu’, to make it easier for you to make your choice, we have explained the meaning and understanding of these three types of Hajj. Let’s see what each of these pilgrimages means.

What is Hajj-ul Ifrad?

Hajj ul-Ifrad is performing Hajj in isolation from Umrah. A person performs the Hajj first until it is completed, then performs Umrah.

This is the best way of performing the Hajj, performing it without interfering with the Umrah pilgrimage. When a person has finished the Hajj worship, then he comes out of the “haram land”, or to the halal land, and he do ihram (intention for umrah) to perform the Umrah. The best halal land for taking ihram is Ja’ranah, then Tan’im, then Hudaibiyah, and it is not obligatory to slaughter “الدم” (slaughtering a goat) for people who perform the Hajj with the Ifrad procedure. However, if he does a “الدم”, it is allowed, and this is included in something that is sunnat.

What is Hajj ul Qiran?

Hajj Qiran is performing Hajj and Umrah at the same time. So, someone does ihram for both, for example he says: LabbaiKa bi Hajjin wa Umrah”, and at that time he became a person who Ihram for both (Hajj and Umrah). By doing ihram like that, then the pilgrimage is adequate for Umrah too. Meaning: Umrah is included in the Hajj worship, only by performing the Hajj, then he is also considered to have performed the Umrah. This is the same as the Wudu of a person a taking a janabat. Who has a janabat, by taking a bath he considered as has performed Wudu too.

However, there is a slight difference, if someone performs Sa’i and Tawaf before Wukuf at Arafah, then his Sa’i is calculated for the two pillars (Hajj and Umrah), but Tawaf that is done before Wukuf, this is not counted (in vain). It is because the Tawaf Fardhu for Hajj worship must be done after the Thawaf.

For those who perform the Hajj ul-Qiran worship, he is obliged to slaughter a goat (al-dam), unless he is a Makkiyun (Ahli Makkah), then there is no obligation on him. The reason is because the Meccans do not leave the Miqat, because the Meccan Miqat is Mecca itself.

What is Hajj ul Tamattu?

The third type of Hajj is the hajj ul-tamattu’, the person who performs this pilgrimage is called “mutamatti”, the procedure is to perform Umrah first. This is done by them leaving for the Holy Land before the time to perform the pilgrimage (for people outside Mecca). When they come to the holy land, they have passed the miqat by doing Umrah and they are Tahallul in Mecca and they have fun there by doing the mahdhurat. Then, when it came time for the pilgrimage (July 8th of zulhijjah) they performed Ihram for Hajj.

Hajj tamattu ‘cannot be performed unless there are five factors below:.

  1. Not a resident of the land of the Haram Mecca (hadhiri Masjidil Haram). People who stay not at a distance where Qasar Salah can done.
  2. Do first Umrah over Hajj
  3. Umrah is performed in the months of Hajj
  4. He does not return to the miqat of Hajj, nor does he leave with a distance of Masafah for Ihram hajj.
  5. Hajj and Umrah are performed by one person.

Well, someone who performs the pilgrimage, he is obliged to slaughter (al-dam = slaughter a goat). If he does not get “animal slaughter” then he must fast for 10 days, 3 days while still in the holy land (fasting before Eid) and 7 days when he returns to his village.

If you want to perform Hajj, then the best is Hajj ul-Ifrad, then Hajj ul-Tamattu’ and lastly Hajj ul-Qiran.
