The function of Indonesian as the national language and state language. On this occasion we will review the Indonesian language including its origins, understanding and function of language in life and its position. So, it is very important to pay attention to the reviews.

Definition of Indonesia Language

Indonesian has a function as the state language, the official language of the state, the language of unity that will unite the Indonesian nation, which consists of thousands of islands. Indonesian as the language of unity has been inaugurated since the 1st youth congress which was held for two days, 27-28 October 1928 in Batavia or Jakarta (now), among the results that had been agreed at the congress were:

  • We, the sons and daughters of Indonesia, claim to have one blood, the homeland of Indonesia.
  • We, the sons and daughters of Indonesia, acknowledge one nation, the Indonesian nation.
  • We, the sons and daughters of Indonesia, teach the Persatoean language, the Indonesian language.

The Beginning of Indonesian History

Malay is the forerunner of the Indonesian language and it is formed from several languages such as Arabic, Persian, Sanskrit and other European languages.

Since the era of the Srivijaya kingdom in the 7th century, the Malay language has been used in every community interaction, including trade at that time. Furthermore, the Malay language continues to develop and expand because it becomes the everyday language of the community.

Long later during the colonial period, Malay was not only well known and respected by the region but also had very good language and was highly respected in the eastern country.

Indonesian, first born at the beginning of the struggle. Where at that time the figures were looking for a language that could be used to unite the nation that could be understood by all nations throughout the archipelago.

The Malay language is growing into a language that fosters brotherhood and affection between people. When many of the existing tribes understand Malay, this language becomes important because it fosters similarity and unity even though it is distinguished from origin and ethnicity.

In 1918 the national leaders decided that the Malay language was the appropriate language to be used because more than half of the archipelago used Malay. Communication between groups and communication in various organizations has also used the Malay language.

Several years later, on October 28, 1928, youths from various regions came to Batavia to make an important and historical statement for the nation which later became known as the Youth Pledge.

then. when independence on August 17, 1945 the state language was inaugurated, namely Indonesian which comes from the Malay language. So, the proclamation of independence has confirmed Indonesian as the state language constitutionally. The position of Indonesian was confirmed as the state language on August 18, 1945. On that day the 1945 Constitution was ratified as the Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia.

In the 1945 Constitution it is stated that the state language is Indonesian. Furthermore, in its development, Indonesian is used as the national language, the language of unity by all Indonesians wherever they are.

With Indonesian, we feel harmonious in life and feel safe because by using Indonesian we can know which of our compatriots. This will make it easier for us to interact and achieve what we are looking for. Do not feel competitive with other ethnic groups, let alone feel that they are being overrun by those of different skin colors. Indonesian language unites and equates the different so that all feel the same and complement each other.

4. Liaison between regional cultures

Different regional cultures can be managed properly and correctly by the nation’s children who speak the same language, namely Indonesian. With this language we can build relationships with various tribes and different cultures, can build interactions, exchange opinions and so on.
