Muslims don’t eat pork meat for no reason. The prohibition of consuming pork is from the Word of Allah in the Koran. Al-Quran is a book of guidance for Muslim life that comes from Allah, the god of the worlds.

Allah mentioned in the Koran 5: 3, which means:

“Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah.” [Al-Qur’an 5: 3]

Everything that is in the Quran is true and there is no doubt. So if there is a prohibition in the Koran, and in the hadith of the Prophet about something, then it is true for the good of humanity itself, because the Koran and the hadiths are the guidelines for life in the world.

That is, the prohibition of eating pork is something that is right and this is good for human health itself. let’s take a closer look at why Muslims don’t eat pork.

1. Prohibition in Earlier Scriptures

Islam is a religion that believes in one God, and this religion was also sent down to the Prophet before the Prophet Muhammad, it’s just not complete like Islam. So, all the teachings of the previous prophets are complete and are in the holy book of the Koran.

Al-Quran is the only one holy book that is still pure until now because Allah, Himself has taken care of it and no one can fake it until the Day of Judgment. Actually, the prohibition of consuming pork is not only in the Koran, but in previous books such as the Bible, there is also a prohibition on consuming it, this is as in Leviticus.

“And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be cloven footed, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you ”.

“Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcass shall ye not touch, they are unclean to you.” [Leviticus 11: 7-8]

However, why there are so many Christians who eat pork now, is because they no longer hold to the actual book, but in Christianity many books have been added or changed by them. Even though some are genuine, with the arrival of Islam, the previous religion has become null and void and cannot be followed, this is the faith of the Muslim community.

In the book of Deuteronomy, pork is also prohibited.

“And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you. Ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcass. ” [Deuteronomy 14: 8]

Likewise with the contents of the Bible in Isaiah chapter 65 verses 2-5. So the prohibition of eating pork is clear and has its benefits. So, when the Koran came, Allah also forbade eating pork as it is in the teachings that were sent down to Prophet Isa.

2. The Nature of Pork

The next reason why Muslims do not eat pork is because pigs are animals that are full of germs and bad bacteria in the meat, even in pork is full of tapeworms and it can move into the body of humans who consume pork.

Pigs are dirty animals, they live and thrive in dirty places, and the main function of pigs in their environment is as scavengers.

You might say that in developed countries pigs are raised in clean places. But still the character of the pig cannot be changed. They will certainly eat their own droppings in the cage. So, this animal is still dirty. That is why do Muslim don’t eat pork.

3. Health Aspects

Another reason why Muslims do not eat pork is from a health perspective. Actually, this is only wisdom, while the prohibition is clear in the Koran and it is obligatory to believe in it.

As a supporter of logic, the development of science is now able to research and see how pork is bad and not good for human health. Research shows that there is a link between eating pork and several types of diseases. If you eat pork, your body can become infected with a variety of helminthes (worms), including roundworm, hookworm and pinworm. One of the most dangerous types of worms in pork is Taenia solium, which in everyday life is called “pork tapeworm”. These worms will occupy the intestines and are very long in size.

Tapeworm eggs can enter the bloodstream and it can reach almost all organs of the body. If this tapeworm enters the brain, then the sufferer can lose memory. If it gets into the heart, there will be a heart attack. Meanwhile, if the pork tapeworm enters the eye, it causes blindness. Likewise, if it enters the heart, it will break the heart.

Also see:

Maybe you think these tapeworm cells will die when the pork is cooked. In fact, the results of research conducted in America show that more than 24 people who suffer from Trichura Tichurasis, 22 of them are those who have cooked pork well. This shows that the tapeworm eggs in pork do not die even though they are cooked. Meaning: There is no safe way to eat pork. That is why Islam forbids pork.

In addition, pigs are rich in bad fats and have very little nutritional content. If this fat accumulates in your blood, it will cause new health problems such as hypertension and heart attacks. Therefore, it is not surprising that many people who eat pork experience hypertension.

So, with a myriad of benefits for pork, then the Islamic prohibition against this is something that is very tested and praised. because Islam is not a religion created by humans but comes from Allah SWT.
